Here it is: our first blog post! Here we will be sharing all our great experiences - with nature, with wildlife and of course with people.
But first, let me introduce myself. My name is Kim and I’m working full-time as a guide here at Dovre & Lesja Aktiv. I’m originally from the Netherlands, but already as a teenager I dreamt of moving to Norway. And why Norway, you ask? The answer is simple: mountains and moose – two things that can’t be found in the Netherlands. If you’ve never been to Holland, let me paint you a picture: it’s flat and there’s people everywhere. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my home country. But after every summer holiday in Norway, I just fell in love with the country. Here, you can go on a hike without meeting a single person. Pure luxury, if you ask me!
So how did I end up here in Dovrefjell? After finishing my bachelor's degree in Norwegian language (yes – that exists) at the university of Amsterdam and Bergen, I realized I’d much rather do something with nature. So, at 22 years old I moved to Norway to start my new studies in Nature management and Ecology. When finishing those studies five years later, I needed a job, and ended up as a muskox- and moose guide here at Dovrefjell. Living the dream!
And now back to Dovre & Lesja Aktiv. We offer muskox and moose safaris, both during summer and winter. The two seasons are very different, and if you’re wondering what our safaris are like, check this blog every once in a while – I promise to tell more about them. I’ll also keep you posted about all the other stuff we do.
I might also mention my colleagues every once in a while. I’m lucky enough to work together with Rune, the manager and co-founder of the company. We have many shared interests, of course nature and wildlife, but also cows! And as the summer season is upon us, our summer guides will arrive soon here at Dovrefjell as well. We’re all very excited, and can’t wait to start the season!
Stay tuned for more stories about Dovrefjell, muskox and moose!
