Mountain cattle - REINHEIMEN NATIONALPARK
Join us to the mountains of Reinheimen National Park and meet cattle along the way!
In Norway, it is tradition to let farm animals roam freely in nature during summer. During this hike, you'll learn all about the importance of the mountains to the locals - then and now.
The trip takes place in scenic and untouched nature in Lordalen, where the chance of meeting wild reindeer is greater than the chance of meeting other people. The cows are of the breed Dølafe, one of Norway's 6 native - and endangered - "ancient" breeds. The animals are perfectly adapted to the mountains and wander over large areas, and the search for these animals makes this trip unique. The cows go with a "radio bell" which gives a good chance of finding them, but the length of the trip can vary from 4 - 8 km. The trip is arranged every Sunday in the period July 15 to August 15.
Price:
650 kr. per person (kids half price) - lunch is included
Groups from 4 up to 20 persons
Please book 24 hours before.
This is a trip with medium demands. Meet up at the Dombås Tourist Information at 11 am, every sunday in the period July 15 to August 15.
The trip lasts about 6 hours and is recommended for adults and children from 6 years old. Bring good walking shoes, warm clothes and a packed lunch. The guide will bring a telescope and it is possible to rent binoculars.

DOVRE AND LESJA AKTIV IS A PART OF THE WILD REINDEER TRAIL (Villreinløypa)
This is a collaboration between several tourist companies in North-Gudbrandsdal, to make known the Wild Reindeer heritage that has been a part of Norwegian culture since the Ice Age (most reindeer in other parts of Norway are owned by people). We have guided tours to examine pits, made to trap reindeer in ancient times that have been discovered by archaeologists in recent years, between Lesja and Vågå. We also take guided tours along the old farm road from Filling to Lesja: the “Reindeer Trail”.
